Advantages And Disadvantages of Fire

Advantages
1)Produces minimum scorch.
2)Produces less particulates.
3)Can use under young pine stands.
4)Easiest and safest to use.

Disadvantages
1)Need steady wind.
2)Not flexible once lit.
3)Need some wind in stand to dissipate heat.
4)Costs more because of interior & extended period.

SPOT FIRES (using line of spots)
Advantages

1))One of the cheaper methods.
2)Allows fast area ignition.
3)Wind can be calm or variable.
4)Can switch to other types.
5)Can start spots where fuel loading is heaviest.
6)Use in larger timber of light fuel loading.
7)Intensity is in between heading and backing fire.

Disadvantages

Skill with this type is needed.
Timing and spacing of spots critical.
